ABOUT US.......We are Martin & Jay Horgan (n Kershaw), we live in Staffordshire with our Dobermanns & 2 Burmese cats. We breed, show internationally and work our dogs in Schutzhund. At Aritaur, we do not breed commercially and have on average two litters a year. We know where all the dogs we have bred are, and remain in regular contact with their owners. Our puppies are only placed with very carefully chosen families and we do not over breed our bitches. We do not favour one 'type' - English, European or American over another; just a good quality, healthy, confident, sociable good looking dog. We are very fortunate to have a group of wonderful owners and friends whose dedication to their dogs shows in the very many awards Aritaur dogs gain in the showring. We aim to continually improve our breeding with the best available stud males and females worldwide, and to produce a Dobermann as sound in mind as in conformation and health. A beautiful Dobermann with an unstable character and poor health is of no value to the breed and despite our success in the show ring, you will find character is a very high priority for us. Jay is an Affiliate of the BIPDT (British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers); Martin is Chairman of the South Cheshire Schutzhund Club and a qualified track layer with the BSA (British Schutzhund Association). We are both KC/DBC (Dobermann Breed Council) listed judges. |

Breeders
of Champions who care about the breed, health and the welfare of the Dobermann,
whether a top winning dog, a great obedience worker or just a
best friend - as they were all bred to be. |

Our dogs ARE FULLY KC Registered, but we
are not members of the KC 'Accredited Breeder' scheme because there is currently no limit to the number of litters a so called Accredited
Breeder can have, commercially breeding 20/30+ litters a year. We welcome the reason the KC introduced the scheme, but are not alone in the considerable numbers of top breeders who have rejected membership. Whilst the scheme continues to allow unlimited breeding, we
will not associate with it. Our policies considerably outweigh the current requirements
of the scheme. |

At Aritaur we breed for show and work, but always for companions first and foremost. We breed sparingly, selectively and conscienciously, for strong, healthy, sound dogs capable of good physical and mental stamina whilst working or showing, with good sound character and steady temperaments. We combine the strong English lines of our kennel with some of the best European and American lines to bring fresh genes into our breeding and to further improve our consistently winning dogs and bitches. Having seen the devastating results of DCM on dogs and their owners, we strongly believe in health testing. All our dogs (whether for breeding or not) are heart tested around every 18 months at Liverpool University, and we test for PHPV, VWd, Thyroid and Hips. If you are buying a puppy you are making a serious financial and emotional commitment and our commitment to our puppies and our buyers is that we will never knowingly breed from dogs or bitches with serious genetic health problems. We will not compromise on character just to breed a pretty show dog and we also take a view of the value of the whole dog in a breeding programme rather than on a single health result. Removing a dog from the gene pool due to one poor test when he/she may have outstanding character, otherwise superb health and excellent breed type would result in not many Dobermanns being bred. We take a longer term view on eliminating undesirable issues. Our Foundation bitch is the outstanding Crislea Centrefold of Aritaur (Juno) bred by Mrs Pat Newey. Juno is a very tightly bred daughter of Ch Holtzburg Mayhem, and has to date 10 Stud Book Number (qualification to Crufts for life) winning progeny from 3 litters, including 4 Champions ~ 2 UK, 2 Dutch. Ch Holtzburg Mayhem was the UK's Top Stud Dog in 1995 and Top Dobermann Stud Dog in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995. A major influence on the breed in this country; many of the best Dobermanns in the country contain his bloodlines and those of his father Ch Perihelias Resolution, who was also the sire of Ch Sallate Ferris, who remains today the unbeaten UK Breed Record Holder with 42 CC's, 24 Reserve CC', twice Group Winner at Crufts. Juno's first litter was to Khaneve Rage n' Honour, a Ferris grandson and established our success with Aritaur Flip Fantasia JW and Aritaur Midnight Rave, who is a Champion producer. Juno's second litter was to Ch Miendy's Soba Up, a predominantly line bred dog on Jowendy's, Manzart and Mayhem. From that litter, we had our first UK Champions - two litter sisters - Ch Aritaur A Little More Soba and Ch Aritaur Surprisingly Soba. Juno's tight breeding enabled us to outcross and bring in fresh blood from Europe. Under the Pet Passport scheme we were one of the first Dobermann breeders to take advantage of being able to travel to Europe without quarantine and we chose the excellent Belgian sire German VDH Ch Ramonburg's Valdo. By an Marienburg's Dark Daimler, an American sire, his pedigree contains the cream of Belgian and American lines; Marienburgs, Ramonburg's, van de Donken, von Franckenhorst and van Neerlands Stam. In May 2001, the D litter were born. The progeny from that litter enabled us to show and win on a competitive level in Europe which is now a regular fixture for us. We achieved great success with Ned Ch, Europa Jugend Siegerin, Lux & Bel Winner Aritaur Dominatrix, Top Brood Bitch Working Group 2007, whose first title at Paris Euro Dog Show 2002, was from Pierluigi Pezzano one of the top European Breed Specialists. Dominatrix remains the only UK bred Dobermann to gain a Siegerin title. All litter sisters - Aritaur Diamante Nero, Ned & Lux Ch Aritaur Dolce Vita ShCm have many wins in Europe. |

Following her many successes, we
took Dominatrix to Finland
at Christmas 2003 to mate her to the internationally acclaimed
Russian male Int, Multi & Russ Ch
Tamerlan iz Slavnoi Stai. The 10 puppies born in February
'04, were the superb 'H' litter, led by UK
& Ir Ch Aritaur Hipnotique BOB Crufts 2008, (20 CC's, 60 Green Stars) who at 19 months became the youngest ever
Dobermann to gain both her UK & Irish crowns, 2007 Top Dobermann and her last win was Best of Breed at Crufts. Ch Aritaur Heracles at Brintala gained his UK title at 3 yrs old and became a Lux Ch at 4. Histabraq 1CC, SchH2,(and sire of CC winners), Hermione in Sweden who is a twice BIS Winner and dam of the Euro Youth Ch 2007, and Helina with 2 CC's
in the UK. Between them to date, the litter have 2 Champions, multiple CC's, BIS's at Breed Club
Championship & Open shows, BPIS, Irish Green Stars, 3 dogs with CACIB's in Ireland and Luxembourg and CC winning progeny. As a result of this mating, Tamerlan became the first dog resident overseas to become Top UK Stud Dog 2007.
In 2005 we took Dominatrix to Paris for her second mating to Int, Multi & Fr Ch F'Hiram Abif Royal Bell, giving us the excellent 'N' litter already producing a RCC winner from puppy with Aritaur Nominator who with his brother Notorious, are showing excellent working promise. Dominatrix had her last litter in Feb 2007 to a son of Tamerlan, the superb young Hungarian dog Tom Dober Hagi. The 'T' litter puppies (shown from July 2007) have already won many classes; Aritaur Tomahawk Marillium has won two BPIS and qualified for Scottish Pup of the Year, A. Tarantino with Asissi is the Celtic Junior Winner 2008, and won his first CACIB aged 14 months. A. Trinity at Mandareus is qualified for Crufts 2009, and A. Tarantella has won two Ch show BPIB. Now aged 7, Dominatrix recently won her 6th Irish Green Star, beating other much younger competition. |

We are proud to have a reputation for breeding Dobermanns capable of working whether in working trials, films, Schutzhund or agility. We are adamantly opposed to backward mentality of some breeders that show dogs should not receive at least basic obedience. It insults the intelligence of this breed. Click for TRAINING tips. Unlike some other top winning kennels, many of our dogs are owner/handled with great success, and we are proud that our breeding is of such good quality to gain the highest awards on merit. If you are considering owning a Dobermann but are unsure if you are right for the breed, we offer an FAQ's page. You should also try to visit a local dog show to meet the breed in an environment other than its' home. You are welcome to call us if you would like more information. If you are interested in an Aritaur puppy whether for show, work or purely love and companionship, and would like more details, please click HERE or call us on 01538 703072. |

This fine example of one of our males (right), is 'Moby' (aka Aritaur Full Monty), in partnership with Phil Lowther & breeder Martin Horgan - taking a relaxing break from the showring. Our dogs stay with us for life and are not conveniently re-homed when they can no longer be shown, worked or bred from. When you choose a breeder, you may find it most interesting to ask where their old dogs are - if it matters to you? If you want just a dog just for show rather than companionship (get a life), a couch potato (get a cat), kennel or guard dog (get an alarm system) and dont call us! |
